Final Rankings 120-111:The Land of Disenchantment

Now that Navy has officially sang first and put an end to their disappointing season, the next layer of the rankings can be revealed. The bottom ten have already been released and so its on to the next not so good, but better teams. 130-121 can be found here.

120.)Image result for oregon state beavers footballOregon State (2-10, 88 WP, 56.1 LP)
The Oregon State Beavers opened their season with two 80 yard touchdown runs and still lost 77-31. That would be the first of nine games in which the Beavers were outscored by at least 15 points. The shining moment came when they scored 24 points in the fourth quarter and then stunned Colorado in overtime for their only PAC-12 win and the first FBS win since Nov. 26, 2016. Oregon State hasn't had a winning season since 2013 and it doesn't look like they'll be headed that way in 2019.
Best Win: Colorado
Worst Loss: Nevada
2017 Finish: 128

119.)Image result for unc tar heels footballNorth Carolina (2-9, 95.5 WP, 56.3 LP)
A disastrous year for UNC as the Tar Heels lost to East Carolina and lost their last seven games against FBS opponents. They did surprise the ACC Coastal Champ, Pitt, but their other win was over Western Carolina (FCS). The Tar Heels did take rival NCST to overtime, but lost and then tried to fight the Wolfpack. Larry Fedora was fired and UNC is bringing back a familiar face in former head coach Mack Brown. Expect better results than two wins for UNC in 2019.
Best Win: Pitt
Worst Loss: ECU
2017 Finish: 110

118.)Image result for navy midshipmen footballNavy (3-10, 100 WP, 57.3 LP)
Things started off well for Navy as they began the season 2-1 before dropping seven straight. They had a chance for a fourth win against Tulane, but the Green Wave went for two instead of the game tying extra point to notch the victory. The worst part is that they have now dropped three straight to Army. This is the first time the Midshipmen have missed a bowl game and only the second time since Ken Niumatalolo took over in 2008.
Best Win:Memphis
Worst Loss: SMU
2017 Finish: 66

117.)Image result for texas state bobcats footballTexas State (3-9, 118.7 WP, 64.2 LP)
Anytime you begin a season with a loss to Rutgers, its never a great start as that would be the Scarlet Knights only win. They rebounded nicely with a win over Texas Southern (FCS), but then they lost five straight. Luckily they were able to take advantage of two low level opponents to win back-to-back games before losing three straight to end the season. Everett Withers is out as head coach and West Virginia Offensive Coordinator, Jake Spavital is in to hopefully kick start an offense that averaged just 7 points in the last three losses.
Best Win: New Mexico State
Worst Loss: Rutgers
2017 Finish: 122

116.)Image result for bowling green falcons footballBowling Green (3-9, 117.3 WP, 69.4 LP)
The Falcons started on a 1-6 skid that led to the eventual firing of coach Mike Jinks after a collapse on Homecoming to Western Michigan. Under the guidance of Carl Pellini, Bowling Green finished 2-3 and Pelini will remain as the defensive coordinator under new head coach Scott Loeffler. Loeffler comes over from Boston College where he served as the offensive coordinator. The Falcons are hoping 2019 brings them their first winning season since 2015.
Best Win: Akron
Worst Loss: Kent State
2017 Finish: 120

115.)Image result for utsa footballUTSA (3-9, 116.3 WP, 55.8 LP)
This was the first year under Frank Wilson that the Roadrunners did not finish with six wins. After an 0-3 start, UTSA feasted on weak competition to win three straight. Then they lost their final six games including four losses where they scored seven or less.
Best Win: Texas State
Worst Loss: Southern Miss
2017 Finish: 53

114.)Image result for east carolina footballECU (3-9, 114 WP, 53.9 LP)
What a strange start to the season. Weather delayed their game against NC A&T to Sunday in week one. That apparently through the Pirates off enough to lose to their FCS foe. Then they came out the next week and beat a Power 5 school in North Carolina in week two before having their next game canceled by Hurricane Florence.
ECU would struggle through the remainder of the season and Scottie Montgomery was fired before their make-up schedule game against NCST. Mike Houston comes over from James Madison where he led the only team not named North Dakota State to an FCS Championship in the last five years.Madison is making some enemies in the state as he spurned an opportunity to be the coach at Charlotte. If Houston hangs around, that could be a big talking point the two schools meet in 2024-25.
Best Win: North Carolina
Worst Loss: NC A&T (FCS)
2017 Finish: 112

113.)Image result for tulsa footballTulsa (3-9, 113 WP, 84.6 LP)
The Golden Hurricane had a lot of close calls that could've easily had them bowl eligible. Tulsa had four games decided by at least one score including a surprise 28-21 showing against Texas and a one-point loss to No. 23 USF. They did win their final game of the year to keep SMU from becoming bowl eligible. Tulsa hopes they can regain their 2016 magic after a slightly improved 2018 season.
Best Win: SMU
Worst Loss: Arkansas
2017 Finish: 117

112.)Image result for new mexico lobos footballNew Mexico (3-9, 113 WP, 57.7 LP)
The Lobos started in the right direction with a 3-2, but then New Mexico dropped their final seven. Surprisingly, Bob Davie is still the head coach despite his 33-54 record since 2012. The Lobos had their second straight 3-9 season with a last place finish in the Mountain West. They did beat New Mexico State to have in-state bragging rivals in the Land of Enchantment, but that doesn't mean they get the bragging rights here.
Best Win: UNLV
Worst Loss: Colorado State
2017 Finish: 113

111.)Image result for new mexico state footballNew Mexico State (3-9, 111.3 WP, 80.2 LP)
How did the Aggies end up above the Lobos in the rankings? Well it simply came down to Liberty. The Aggies beat the Flames while the Lobos didn't. Although the two FBS Independents did play a rare in-season-home-and-home against Liberty with the Flames winning the second match-up. That difference is the mere 1.7 WP that separated these two New Mexico schools. This was an extra disappointing season after New Mexico State appeared in their first bowl game in nearly 60 years in 2017.
Best Win: Liberty
Worst Loss: Texas State
2017 Finish: 71
