Fake College Basketball Tournament: Sweet 16 (Day 2): Dayton, Penn State, Oregon, and Seton Hall All Punch Tickets to Next Round

The Elite Eight is set and it will be comprised of 2 Big Ten schools (Penn State, Wisconsin), 1 SEC (Kentucky), 1 Atlantic 10 (Dayton), 1 Pac-12 (Oregon), 1 Big East (Seton Hall), 1 Missouri Valley Conference (Northern Iowa), and 1 WCC School (St. Mary's).

Kentucky (2) will face Wisconsin (4) in the North while St. Mary's (8) takes on Northern Iowa (14) in a wild South bracket. Dayton (1) awaits Penn State (6) in the East while Oregon (4) and Seton Hall (3) are set to meet in the West.

Here's how today's action went down:

(1) Dayton 50                                                (4) Maryland 47

Don't let the score fool you, the Terrapins hit a three at the buzzer to make it a three point loss, but couldn't get out of the 12-2 hole the dug at the beginning of the game. This is just the Flyers fourth ever Elite Eight appearance and first since 2014.

(6) Penn State 59                                       (7) West Virginia 41

The Mountaineers made it this far thanks to Wright State shocking Florida State, but they were overpowered by the Nittany Lions early and could get the three-ball to fall, which led to too many empty possessions for West Virginia. It's been a very long time coming for Penn State as this is just their third Elite Eight appearance and first since 1954.

WEST:

(4) Oregon 59                                      (1) Gonzaga 46

The lone upset of the day was a big one as the Ducks made Gonzaga the third Number 1 seed to exit the tournament. Oregon used a big day behind the arc and the Bulldogs couldn't respond late in the game. The Ducks make their eighth appearance in the Elite 8 and have done so in back-to-back years and four of the last five.

(3) Seton Hall 62                                       (7) Arizona 46

The Pirates had no interest in seeing a 7/4 match-up in the Elite Eight, so they buried the Wildcats with a late surge and ending Arizona's bid to return to the next round for the first time since 2015. Instead the boys from South Orange, NJ, will make just their third appearance in the Elite Eight and the first since they did so twice in three years from 1989-91.
