Preseason Rankings 100-76: Trying to Escape the Seas of Mediocrity

We now enter the portion of the rankings where teams that finish here will likely be watching bowl season from home. To be fair, home can be a lot nice for some teams on this list (Hawaii/Coastal Carolina) than others (Northern Illinois/Michigan State).

So let's move on to the next part of the preseason rankings.

A least the view is nice for number 100.

100. Hawaii

Last Year Finish (96, 5-7)

A Quick Note: The Rainbow Warriors had three opportunities to get bowl eligible but let them slip through their fingers late in the game.

Prediction: 4-8

99. Northwestern

Last Year Finish (107, 4-8)

A Quick Note: Two years ago the Wildcats were a surprise and 2024 saw them snap back to reality.

Prediction: 4-8

98. Coastal Carolina

Last Year Finish (79, 6-7)

A Quick Note: The Chanticleers finished with a losing record for the first time since 2019.

Prediction: 7-5

97. Appalachian State

Last Year Finish (83, 5-6)

A Quick Note: Hurricane flooding cost the Mountaineers their shot at a bowl bid, so new head coach Dowell Loggains will be tasked with getting them back on track.

Prediction: 6-6

96. North Texas

Last Year Finish (81, 6-7)

A Quick Note: The Mean Green lost six of their final seven games including a bowl loss to Texas State.

Prediction: 6-6
The Wildcats were tamed in 2024.

95. Arizona

Last Year Finish (104, 4-8)

A Quick Note: The Wildcats squandered a 3-1 start including an upset of Utah by going 1-7 down the stretch.

Prediction: 5-7

94. Maryland

Last Year Finish (105, 4-8)

A Quick Note: See Arizona without the upset. Mike Locksley is the king of middle of the road.

Prediction: 6-6

93. Cal

Last Year Finish (76, 6-7)

A Quick Note: The Bears had some success despite flying all over God's Green Earth for conference play in the ACC.

Prediction: 5-7

92. UCF

Last Year Finish (110, 4-8)

A Quick Note: Scott Frost returns to UCF after winning a National Championship when he was there last in 2017. At least that's what the billboards said.

Prediction: 6-6

91. Wake Forest

Last Year Finish (106, 4-8)

A Quick Note: Jake Dickert switches coasts from Washington State to Wake Forest.

Prediction: 5-7
This is the last year the Beavers are guaranteed to finish no worse than second in the Pac 12.

90. Oregon State

Last Year Finish (91, 5-7)

A Quick Note: The Beavers were one step away in 2024 and hope to get closer in their last season of two teams in the Pac 12.

Prediction: 7-5

89. Northern Illinois

Last Year Finish (53, 8-5)

A Quick Note: These traitors are leaving the MAC and headed for the Mountain West in 2026.

Prediction: 7-5

88. Air Force

Last Year Finish (97, 5-7)

A Quick Note: Troy Calhoun is back for his 19th year as head coach of the Falcons.

Prediction: 8-4

87. Kentucky

Last Year Finish (102, 4-8)

A Quick Note: I heard a UK fan in Cincinnati talking dismissively about their home game against Eastern Michigan and now I hope they lose every game.

Prediction: 5-7

86. Florida State

Last Year Finish (129, 2-10)

A Quick Note: Mike Norvell invested in those Men in Black lights to make everyone forget how bad 2024 was.

Prediction:  7-5
Matt Entz has taken his talents from the highest level of the FCS to Fresno.

85. Fresno State

Last Year Finish (75, 6-7)

A Quick Note: Matt Entz is no stranger to winning after doing so at North Dakota State.

Prediction: 7-5

84. South Alabama

Last Year Finish (65, 7-6)

A Quick Note: If South Alabama becomes bowl eligible, they have to play Central Michigan so they can complete a sweep of the Michigan MAC teams.

Prediction: 8-4

83. Virginia

Last Year Finish (85, 5-7)

A Quick Note: Tony Elliott's seat might get a little hotter if the Cavaliers miss another bowl season.

Prediction: 5-7

82. Jacksonville State

Last Year Finish (42, 9-5, CUSA Champs)

A Quick Note: Charles Kelly replaces Rich Rodriguez in the Gamecocks locker room.

Prediction: 8-4

81. ECU

Last Year Finish (55, 8-5)

A Quick Note: The Pirates rallied to win five of their final six games including a bowl win over in-state foe NCST.

Prediction: 6-6
Jonathan Smith hopes things turn around in year two.

80. Michigan State

Last Year Finish (94, 5-7)

A Quick Note: Sparty hasn't had a winning season since 2021.

Prediction: 6-6

79. Western Kentucky

Last Year Finish (58, 8-6)

A Quick Note: The Hilltoppers stumbled down the stretch losing four of five including the CUSA Championship and their bowl game.

Prediction: 9-3

78. UTSA

Last Year Finish (69, 7-6)

A Quick Note: The Roadrunners won five of their final seven to salvage a winning season.

Prediction: 8-4

77. Houston

Last Year Finish (101, 4-8)

A Quick Note: Willie Fritz's first season ended with a three-game losing streak.

Prediction: 6-6

76. Wisconsin

Last Year Finish (92, 5-7)

A Quick Note: The Badgers need to just one win in their final five to become bowl eligible and instead they lost all five.

Prediction: 6-6
