The Golden Knights (8-0, 5-0 American) fell behind at the half, but allowed just six points to avoid an upset at the hands of the Owls (5-4, 4-1) and keep the win streak alive at 20 straight.
Anthony Russo lit up UCF defense in the first half when he threw for three touchdowns and ran for another. The big play came on a 70-yard touchdown connection with Randle Jones. Temple's defense however, allowed three total touchdowns to McKenzie Milton and another to rushing score to Taj McGowan.
It took 50 seconds for the Knights to seize the lead back as Greg McCrae scampered for a 32-yard touchdown run. UCF pushed the lead to eight when Milton threw a 19-yard touchdown to Michael Colubiale. The Owls responded in the fourth quarter when Russo threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game, this one to Ventell Bryant, but the game tying two-point conversion failed.
Once again it took short work for UCF to quell the uprising when McGowan scored to cap a 1:28 second drive. Temple got down to the UCF 30-yard line, but turned the ball over on a fourth and 20. After a field goal made it 52-40, Russo was picked off by Richie Grant to seal the victory.
The two teams combined for 1300 yards on Thursday with Temple setting a school record with 670.
The victory likely wasn't impressive enough for the committee to move UCF up drastically, so they'll look to blow Navy (2-7, 1-4) out of the water next Saturday. Temple heads west for another tough road game as they take on Houston (7-2, 4-1).

The Mustangs hit the road next when they go to UConn (1-8, 0-5) while Houston welcomes Temple (5-4, 4-1).

Memphis hosts Tulsa (2-7, 1-4) next while ECU heads to Tulane (4-5, 3-2).
The Bearcats (8-1, 4-1 American) throttled Navy (2-7, 1-4) as they handed the Midshipmen their tenth straight road loss.
The Cincinnati defense held Navy to 171 total yards of offense as the Midshipmen were shut out for the first time since 2012. Navy will also not be going to a bowl game for the first time since 2011.
Desmond Ridder had two total touchdowns while Michael Warren II added two rushing touchdowns in the win.
