The Redhawks (3-6, 3-2 MAC) scored 42 points through three quarters, but couldn't get the go ahead points as Buffalo (8-1, 5-0) scored the last nine points of the game for the win on Tuesday.
The Bulls jumped out to a 35-21 after the half when quarterback Tyree Jackson ran for a his third touchdown of the game and fifth overall. Alonzo Smith's second rushing touchdown got Miami back within seven, but Anthony Johnson's third touchdown from Jackson. Johnson had previously hauled in a 75-yard TD and a 20-yard score before this 10-yard catch that made it 42-28.
Not ready to go away yet, Gus Ragland found Kenny Young for a 59-yard touchdown pass and then ran for a 1-yard score to tie the game. Ragland's legs accounted for three scores while his arm threw for one.
Buffalo retook the lead after Jaret Patterson scored on a four yard run, but the Bulls missed the extra point. The Redhawks elected to go for it from midfield, but Ragland had his pass fall incomplete. That led to an Adam Mitcheson 37-yard field goal to make it 51-42. Miami would fumble on their next drive and then go four on their final drive.
The Bulls will play another Tuesday game when Kent State (2-7, 1-4) comes to town. Miami returns to Oxford for the "Battle of the Bricks" when the Bobcats (6-3,4-1) pay a visit. The Redhawks haven't won against Ohio since 2012 and have lost 11 of the last 12 meetings.
In a battle of someone has to win, Kent State (2-7, 1-4 MAC) came out on top and knocked off Bowling Green (1-8, 0-5) on Tuesday.
The two teams were neck-and-neck through two quarters before the Golden Flashes pulled away 21-13 on Jo-El Shaw scored his second touchdown of the day. The Falcons answered in the fourth when Ra'veion Hargrove hauled in a 4-yard touchdown from Jarret Doege and then Doege converted the 2-point conversion to tie the game.
Kent State took the lead back when Woody Barrett connected with Antwan Dixon. Barrett would let the Falcons back in the game when he carelessly ran through a crowded area with only one hand on the ball and had it stripped. That set up a Doege to Noah Massey 12-yard score to tie it up.
The Flashes responded with an 18-yard TD run by Shaw and then the defense picked of Doege to end Bowling Green's chances of a rally.
Kent State heads to Buffalo (8-1, 5-0) next Tuesday while the Falcons head to Central Michigan (1-9, 0-6) for a Saturday showdown.
Both teams committed five turnovers, but it didn't faze the Rockets (5-4, 3-2 MAC) as they rolled to a big win over the Cardinals (3-7, 2-4) on Halloween.
Eli Peters threw for 327 yards and two touchdowns, but did throw four interceptions. Peters started for the injured Mithcell Guadagni. Bryant Koback had two rushing touchdowns for Toledo while defense turned one of the five turnovers into a touchdown.
Ball State also started a different quarterback with Riley Neal injured as Drew Plitt threw for 340 yards with one touchdown. He also had some rough patches with two interceptions, four sacks, and one fumble.
The most fight from the Cardinals came when Mike Neu took exception to Toledo head coach Jason Candle's decision to have Peters throw a deep post for a 41-yard touchdown with the game out of hand. Neu and Candle exchanged words during the post-game handshake. Ball State was also eliminated from bowl contention with the loss.
The Rockets try to become bowl eligible when they head to Northern Illinois (6-3, 5-0) on Wednesday. Ball State takes a week off before hosting Western Michigan on Nov. 13.
The Zips (4-4, 2-3 MAC) rallied in the third quarter to get within three, but the Huskies (6-3, 5-0) were able to stave off any comebacks and stay undefeated in the MAC.
Tre Harbison led Northern Illinois with 169 yards rushing and a touchdown. The defense played a big role as they racked up five sacks, but no one had a bigger performance than Jalen McKie. He finished with two interceptions, including a pick-six, and also returned a blocked PAT.
Akron had pulled within seven on a Kato Nelson touchdown pass, but Nelson would leave the game with an injury. A fumble allowed his replacement, Alex Ramart, to lead a short touchdown drive to set up the tying PAT, but it would blocked and scooped up by McKie to instead put NIU up three. Before the injury Nelson had 299 yards and two touchdowns. Andrew Williams hauled in eight catches for 129 yards and a score while Kwadarrius Smith caught four passes for 115 yards and two scores.
The Huskies head home for a Wednesday showdown with Toledo (5-4, 3-2) while Arkon heads to Eastern Michigan (5-5, 3-3) on Saturday. The Zips also announced a replacement game for their canceled match-up against Nebraska. Instead they'll head to South Carolina on Dec. 1.
It was over before it started as Ohio (6-3, 4-1 MAC) jumped out to a 45-0 lead at the half to silence the Western Michigan (6-4,4-2) crowd.
Nathan Rourke threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in the Bobcats win. The defense forced six turnovers and also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown.
Without Jon Wassink under center, the Broncos offense amassed just 270 total yards with a Jamauri Bogan run and a Kaleb Eleby touchdown pass to Jaylen Hall as the lone bright spots.
Ohio has now won five of their last six including three straight. They look to continue another win streak as they haven't lost to Miami (3-6, 3-2) since 2012 and look to make it six straight on Wednesday. Western Michigan heads to Ball State (3-7, 2-4) as both teams look to snap their small losing streaks.
The Eagles (5-5, 3-3 MAC) let the Chippewa's (1-9, 0-6) hang around for three quarters, but Central Michigan had too many self inflicted wounds and Eastern Michigan pulled away with the win.
Shaq Vann got the Eagles on the board right away with a 26-yard touchdown run on his way to a 114 yard performance. The two teams traded turnovers back and forth throughout the second quarter with the most costly coming with EMU driving. Tyler Wiegers, in for the injured Mike Glass III, was sacked and fumbled to allow Mike Danna to scoop and score for 68 yards with just seven seconds remaining in the half.
It stayed 7-7 until the fourth quarter when Wiegers connected with Blake Banham for the go ahead score. The Eagles added a field goal with 4:47 remaining. CMU was held to just 138 total yards of offense while committing four turnovers.
EMU tries to become bowl eligible for the second time in three years after only going to a bowl game once in school history back in 1987. They'll try to do so at home against Akron (4-4, 2-3) while CMU host Bowling Green (1-8, 0-5) in a battle of one win teams looking for their first MAC win.
