A week after upsetting Appalachian State, the Georgia Southern Eagles (7-2, 4-1 Sun Belt) were knocked down a peg as the Warhawks (5-4, 3-2) roughed them up in a blowout win.
Caleb Evans threw for 337 yards and two touchdowns while running for 102 yards and two more scores. Marcus Green caught both touchdowns, including an 80-yard strike, to finish with 149 yards on just catches. Derrick Gore added 114 yards rushing with a touchdown.
The powerful Eagles rushing attack was limited to just 138 yards. The defense and special teams accounted for most of their scoring with Jessie Liptrot returning an interception and Benz Josue returning a blocked punt.
Louisiana Monroe looks to become bowl eligible next week when they head to South Alabama (2-7, 1-4). Meanwhile, Georgia Southern hosts Troy (7-2, 5-0) in a battle for the top spot in the Sun Belt.
The Mountaineers (6-2, 4-1 Sun Belt) didn't surrender an offensive touchdown as they scored the final 16 points to knock off Coastal Carolina and become bowl eligible.
Darrynton Evans ran wild for 159 yards and a touchdown while Marcus Williams Jr. added 103 yards and a score of his own for App St. Jacob Huesman threw for a touchdown, but also threw two interceptions including a pick-six.
The Chanticleers only amassed 178 total yards of offense and were just 1-of-10 on third down.
The Mountaineers head to Texas State (3-6, 1-4) next while Coastal Carolina hosts Arkansas State (5-4, 2-3).
The Trojans (7-2, 5-0 Sun Belt) held off a third quarter rally by the Ragin' Cajuns (4-5, 2-3) to remain the only undefeated team in Sun Belt play.
Sawyer Smith threw for 317 yards and a 75-yard score while B.J. Smith scampered for 103 yards yards and a touchdown for Troy. Tyler Sumpter was perfect on all four field goal attempts.
Trey Ragas had 106 yards rushing and both Louisiana touchdowns. The Cajuns were plagued by three turnovers including two interceptions by Andre Nunez.
The Trojans look to stay on top in their half of the Sun Belt when they head to Georgia Southern (7-2, 4-1). Louisiana will return home to host Georgia State (2-7, 1-4).
The Red Wolves (5-4, 2-3 Sun Belt) shook off a slow start to pummel the Jaguars (2-7, 1-4) and eliminate them from bowl contention.
Justice Hansen threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns while running for another score. His favorite target was Justin McInnis who hauled in seven catches for 177 yards and a score.
Evan Orth and Cephus Johnson both threw touchdown passes, but South Alabama finished with just 260 yards.
Arkansas State heads to Coastal Carolina (5-4, 2-3) while the Jaguars host Louisiana Monroe (5-4, 3-2).
The Bobcats (3-6, 1-4 Sun Belt) have now won back-to-back games to keep their bowl hopes alive, while Georgia State (2-7, 1-4) was not so fortunate after Saturday's affair.
Willie Jones III threw for 325 yards and two scores while running for 62 yards and a touchdown to lead Texas State. The Panthers put together a late rally scoring 21 in the fourth quarter thanks to touchdown runs by Tra Barnett and Aaron Winchester. Winchester also threw for a touchdown in the final frame.
The Bobcats look to stay alive when they host Appalachian State (6-2, 4-1) while Georgia State heads to Louisiana (4-5, 2-3).
