It was a thriller until the end, with UCLA overcoming a halftime deficit to rally and earn the right to play Penn State. Both schools came in to the tourney as at large bids.

In a battle between two tournament champs with longer names than their likely tournament hopes, the Panthers were too much early on as the Eagles could not fully close the 20 point hole they once fell in. This was also a battle between two HBCUs with PVAM representing the SWAC and NCC representing the MEAC. The Panthers will move on to play Gonzaga (1).
