ACC Recap Week 3

The ACC went 5-0 against non-conference opponents and had several close conference game match-ups, despite three teams having their games canceled by Hurricane Florence.

The kickoff was moved up two hours, but that didn't throw off either school as the they battled it out in a back and forth offensive explosion.
Anthony Brown threw for 304 yards and five touchdowns and A.J. Dillion scampered for 185 yards and a score to lead the way for Boston College (3-0, 1-0 ACC). Matt Colburn ran for 117 yards and a touchdown while Cade Carney added another 116 on the ground for Wake Forest (2-1, 0-1).
Dillon got things started right away with a 45-yard run to cap a three play, 52 yard drive to open the game. The Demon Deacons caught a break when Michael Walker fumbled a punt return at the and Wake Forest recovered on the B.C. 13-yard line to set up a short score.
Special teams once again played a pivotal role in tying the game up for the Demon Deacons. After the first of Brown's two touchdown tosses to Jeff Smith, Wake Forest blocked a punt on the Eagles next drive and recovered for a touchdown. The two teams traded touchdowns and took a 21-21 tie into the half.
Boston College was able to pull away in the second half as they scored touchdowns, while the Demon Deacons settled for field goals. Sam Hartman connected with Jack Freudenthal for a 5-yard score with 1:33 left, but Boston College recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock.
The Eagles head to Purdue next while Wake Forest welcomes Notre Dame to Winston-Salem.

It took Clemson (3-0) a quarter to really get going, but the defense never let the option attack that Georgia Southern (2-1) attempted, to get going all day. The Eagles were held to just 140 total yards.
Travis Etienne had 162 yards by himself on the ground for the Tigers with two touchdowns. Justyn Ross added three catches for 103 yards and a score.

Pitt (2-1, 1-0 ACC) busted out to a 21-0 lead at the half, but had to fight off a late rally by the Yellow Jackets (1-2, 0-1) to secure the victory.
The Yellow Jackets ran for 320 yards and three scores with Taquon Marshall accounting for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Qadree Ollison led the way for the Panthers with 91 yards and two scores.
Georgia Tech was plagued by second half mistakes, starting with a missed PAT on their first touchdown of the game. Their next touchdown drive came sandwiched in between a fumble and an interception. They also missed a field goal at the beginning of the first half. Clinton Lynch brought Georgia Tech to within one score, but the onside kick attempt went out of bounds and Pitt was able to run out the clock.
Georgia Tech welcomes Clemson (3-0) next while Pitt travels to North Carolina to face the Tar Heels (0-2).

There was no trap in this rare trip to a MAC stadium. Malik Rosier accounted for five total touchdowns and 285 total yards to lead the Hurricanes (2-1) past the Rockets (1-1).
Miami absolutely controlled the game, holding the ball for more than 11 minutes than Toledo. Deejay Dallas played a big part in that with his 17 carries for 110 yards and a score. Jeff Thomas had 105 yards on five catches including a touchdown.
The Hurricanes and FIU (2-1) in a battle for Miami, with hopes that it goes better than it did in 2006.

Tommy DeVito filled in wonderfully for an injured Eric Dungey as Syracuse (3-0. 1-0 ACC) held Florida St (1-2, 0-2) to just 240 total yards of offense.
The Orange defense was smothering and the offense held the ball for nearly 37 minutes of the game. Dungey had to leave with Syracuse only leading 6-0 after he was poked in the eye. Devito responded by leading the Orange to scoring drives on three of their first four possessions of the second half.
Syracuse welcomes a UConn (1-2) that nearly lost to FCS Rhode Island while the Seminoles welcome the NIU Huskies (1-2) to Tallahassee.

With a chance to go 3-0 on the line, it was the Blue Devils (3-0) early onslaught that helped knock off the Baylor Bears (2-1) in Waco, Texas.
Quentin Harris threw for three touchdowns and ran for 83 yards to lead the way for Duke. The Blue Devils defense put things away when Leonard Johnson picked off Jalan McClendon and returned it 53 yards for a touchdown to make it 40-20 with 3:39 left.
Duke should have no trouble going to 4-0 when they host North Carolina Central (1-1) next.

Bryce Perkins threw for three touchdowns and 379 yards while Jordan Ellis added another three scores and 171 yards on the ground to lead Virginia (2-1) past the pesky Bobcats (1-1).
The game was moved from Charlottesville, to Nashville because of Hurricane Florence. It's likely that Olamide Zaccheaus will likely petition that the Cavaliers play all their games in Vanderbilt's home stadium as he finished with 247 yards and two scores.

Virginia will welcome Louisville (2-1) next.

It started with a blocked kick with the Cardinals (2-1) trailing 14-6. That led to a short field touchdown for Louisville. Then Western Kentucky (0-3) was able to put a field goal through to make it 17-13.
The Cardinals responded with a Dae Williams touchdown run to give them their first lead at the 5:01 mark in the fourth quarter. The Hilltoppers had a chance to tie it as time expired, but Ryan Nuss saw his 51-yard field goal attempt sail wide.
Louisville opens ACC play with Virginia (2-1) next week.
