Oh happy day! Kansas (1-1) snapped its 46-game losing streak on the road and won for the first time against an FBS opponent since stunning Texas in November of 2016.
No doubt Central Michigan (0-2) was excited to have another Power 5 win on their ledger, but the Jayhawks were not interested. Pooka Williams Jr. ran for 125 yards and two scores while the defense forced six turnovers.
This all coming a week after Kansas was embarrassed at home by Nicholls St in overtime.
Kansas returns home in a bottom feeder Power 5 showdown with the Big Ten's Rutgers (1-1).
Chip Kelly has really got to be wondering who scheduled this season. Oklahoma (2-0) had a comfortable 42-7 lead before the Bruins (0-2) scored again. Kyle Murray led the Sooners with 306 yards passing and 69 yards rushing with five total touchdowns.
Oklahoma will head to Ames, Iowa to face the Cyclones (0-1).
The Cyclones (0-1) had their season opener canceled in the middle of the second quarter last and it appeared that the Iowa State offense was only interested in playing a quarter of football in this one too.
They finished with 188 total yards and did not score after an opening drive field goal. Iowa (2-0) didn't look much better, missing two field goals and totaling just 271 yards, but still got the win. Iowa has now won the last four Cy-Hawk meetings.
Iowa St opens Big 12 play against Oklahoma (2-0).
The Penguins (0-2) had no answer for Will Grier who threw for 332 yards and four scores to lead the Mountaineers (2-0) to victory. Leddie Brown added 115 yards and a score on the ground.
West Virginia travel to NCST (2-0) next week.
The Iron Skillet was on the line in Dallas, but the Horned Frogs (2-0) used a strong second half defensively to earn their seventh straight win over SMU (0-2). A rainy affair had TCU off balance in the first half with just a 14-12 lead, but they woke up in the second half to outscore the Mustangs 28-0. Quarterback Shawn Robinson added a touchdown with his arm and his legs. The Horned Frogs defense notched a touchdown and a safety.
TCU welcomes the Urban Meyerless Ohio State Buckeyes (2-0) to Ft. Worth. OSU is averaging 64.5 points in their first two games, both against Power 5, albeit bottom tier, schools.
The Cowboys (2-0) limited the Jaguars (0-2) to just 214 total yards and Taylor Cornelius threw for 428 yards, but only one touchdown to lead Oklahoma St to victory.
Next up is a ranked showdown with No. 17 Boise St (2-0) in Stillwater.
Baylor (2-0) has already surpassed its win total from last season thanks to a 328 yard, three touchdown performance from quarterback Charlie Brewer. The Bears defense also limited UTSA (0-2) to just 255 total yards.
Someone is guaranteed to lose for the first time next week when Baylor welcomes Duke (2-0).
Impressive is that Lamar (1-1) only has a -7 point differential this season. Also impressive was the 683 total yards that Texas Tech (1-1) dropped on the Cardinals. It was also their highest scoring output since 2005 when they scored 80 against Sam Houston St.
The Red Raiders welcome a tough Houston (2-0) team to Lubbock next week.
Texas (1-1) got off to a fast start after picking off Luke Skipper and scoring three plays later and took a 21-0 lead into the half.
Tulsa (1-1) didn't go away quietly as they scored with 4:53 left in the game to come within seven. Texas however held the ball for those final five minutes to seal the victory. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger accounted for three (2 passing, 1 rushing) of the four scores.
Texas can talk to No. 22 USC (1-1) about how things aren't going the way they expected it to this season when the Trojans come to Austin.
The Wildcats (1-1) nearly lost to FCS foe South Dakota last week, so when a ranked SEC school came in to town, expectations were likely lowered. At least I hope they were because Kansas State was held to just 213 total yards while the Bulldogs (2-0) ran for 384 yards with 211 of them going to Kylin Hill.
The Wildcats look to bounce back at home against UTSA (0-2).
