A defensive struggle, quarterback play just good enough to get the win, and a last second field goal. It must be Saturday in the SEC.
LSU (3-0, 1-0 SEC) would get a big boost from their defense as the Tigers picked off Jarrett Stidham to set up a short field. Clyde Edwards-Helaire capped a grueling nine play, 34-yard drive, with a one-yard score. LSU would miss a field goal, but make another to take a 10-0 lead.
Auburn (2-1, 0-1) came roaring back with a JaTarvious Whitlow 7-yard touchdown run and then a Shaun Shivers 7-yard TD run to make it 14-10 at the half.
In the second half, LSU opted to go for it on 4th and 3 from the Auburn 45, but came up short to give Auburn a short field. The Tigers took advantage when Stidham found Darius Slayton from four yards out to give Auburn a 21-10 lead.
LSU would knock in another field goal while the defense picked off Stidham again and Auburn also missed what proved to be a key field goal. Joe Burrow had his moment in the fourth quarter when he found Derrick Dillion for a 71-yard touchdown that cut the lead to 21-19 after the two-point conversion came up short.
Auburn punted the ball with 5:38 left and never saw it again. LSU converted two third and longs as well as a fourth down to set up Cole Tracy. Tracy forgot about the miss earlier and drilled a 42-yard field goal as time expired to stun the Auburn crowd.

Auburn will look for SEC win number one at home against Arkansas (1-2) while LSU welcomes Louisiana Tech (2-0) to Baton Rouge.

Another close loss for the Boilermakers (0-3) as they rallied in the fourth quarter, only to watch Missouri (3-0) snatch away a chance at victory.
The Tigers built a 27-10 lead in the second quarter, but David Blough led Purdue down the field for two scores (one rushing, one passing) to bring the Boilermakers within three at the half. Purdue tied it on their first drive of the second half, but Drew Lock used his legs for an 8-yard score to put the Tigers back on top. Missouri added a field goal to pad its lead and the Boilermakers missed an opportunity to tie when Spencer Evans missed from 49 yards out.
Blough set up a 7-yard touchdown pass with a 74-yard connection with Brycen Hopkins to bring the Boilermakers within three. The defense got a big stop when they picked off Lock in the redzone. That led to a Purdue field goal to tie the game with 3:28 left in the game.
Missouri would move the chains and set up an easy 25-yard field goal to win the game as time expired.
Lock finished the day with 375 yards and three touchdowns passing and another rushing. Blough had 572 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.

A nice relaxing day for the Volunteers (2-1) as the Miners (0-3) extended their losing streak to 15 by racking up a measly 134 total yards of offense.
Ty Chandler single handedly out gained UTEP as he ran for 158 yards and a score on just 12 carries.
The Vols welcome Florida (2-1) in their SEC opener.

Had Florida (2-1) lost this game, it would have been the largest payout for a loss in FBS history. Instead it was just the largest payout for a win as the Jim McElwain used to coach us bowl paid dividends for both sides.
Felipe Franks tossed two touchdowns for the Gators and the defense held Colorado St (1-3) to just 70 yards rushing.
Florida heads to Tennessee (2-1) in search of their first SEC win of the year.

Ole Miss (2-1) came out swinging as Jordan Ta'amu found D.K. Metcalf for a 75-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage to set the crowd in Oxford on fire. Then reality set in and Alabama (3-0) marched down the field in three plays to tie the game and score 62-0 unanswered to let that same crowd get an early start on their Saturday night.
Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts both threw two touchdowns to lead the Crimson Tide. Mac Brown was the most featured player for Ole Miss as he had nine punts.
Alabama faces their first real test at home against No. 22 Texas A&M (2-1). Ole Miss looks to bounce back against Kent St (1-2).

Image result for notre dame vs vanderbilt footballNo. 8 Notre Dame 22-Vanderbilt 17
The Fighting Irish (3-0) found themselves in another one score game as they were able to withstand a Vanderbilt (2-1) rally in the second half to remain undefeated.
The Irish took a 16-3 lead into the half, but Vanderbilt scored on a three yard run at the end of the third quarter to cut into the lead. Ian Book spelled Wimbush and extended the Notre Dame lead when he found Nic Weishar for a 2-yard score, but the Irish missed the two-point conversion. Vanderbilt closed the gap with a touchdown pass by Kyle Shurmur and the Irish missed a 32-yard field goal that would have made it an eight point game.
Notre Dame's defense hunkered down, stopping the Commodores at the Irish 31 on a fourth and four. Vanderbilt attempted a series of laterals at the end of the game, but the Irish fell on the ball to seal the victory.

Vanderbilt takes on a South Carolina (1-1) team that had its game canceled by Hurricane Florence.

Six interceptions. Being faked out on a punt return by a guy pretending the play is dead. Paying a team $1 million for them to beat you.
The Razorbacks (1-2) experienced all these things as North Texas (3-0) embarrassed Arkansas.
Bad news for the Razorbacks as they have No. 9 Auburn, No. 22 Texas A&M, and No. 1 Alabama next on their schedule.
