Saturday saw the cancellation of Akron at Nebraska and South Dakota St at Iowa St, but East Carolina (0-1) elected to postpone their contest against North Carolina Agriculture and Technology aka NCAT (2-0).
The Aggies are no stranger to winning games against FBS teams, in fact this was the third straight year they've done so. It took four overtimes the first time they did it against Kent St in 2016. They edged out Charlotte 35-31 to help complete a perfect 12-0 season.
As for the Pirates, they fell to an FCS school for the second straight season. In 2017 the Pirates welcomed the defending FCS champion James Madison Dukes, who gave NCST a run for their money this season. The Dukes won easily 34-14.
ECU was much more competitive in Sunday's contest, but weren't able to finish off the Aggies. They elected to go for it on fourth down instead of trying to make it 28-26 and failed with just under five minutes left. The defense held and got ECU the ball back with 2:07 left.
The Pirates began on their own 38-yard line and got as close as the NCAT 31, but ECU had to settle for a final heave to the end zone. Someone caught the ball, but unfortunately for Reid Herring, it was the Aggies' Timadre Abram to seal the victory.
ECU heads west two hours to take on North Carolina (0-1), who dropped its opener against Cal on Saturday.
