The Aggies (0-2) were in this one for the first quarter, but were outscored 41-3 after that by Minnesota (1-0). New Mexico St had 38 yards rushing and are now averaging just 8.5 points in their first two games this season (lost 29-7 to Wyoming).
Up next is a Utah St (0-1) that nearly knocked off Michigan St.
Duke (1-0) entered halftime leading Army (0-1) 17-0 and held off a Black Knights rally in the third quarter to coast 34-14. Army had a hard time holding on to the football as they had five fumbles, losing two. Kelvin Hopkins Jr. had 197 yards passing and 37 yards rushing and accounted for both scores in the third quarter.
Army will face the new kid in FBS, Liberty (1-0).
Liberty (1-0) wrapped up their first game as an official FBS member by dropping 28 points in the fourth quarter on Old Dominion (0-1) who just joined the FBS ranks in 2014. Stephen Calvert had 345 yards passing and four touchdowns to lead the way for the Flames. Kentory Matthews added 101 yards and a score on the ground, while Peytton Pickett ran for 87 yards and two scores of his own.
Liberty travels to Army (0-1) next week.
Luckily for the Irish (1-0), Michigan (0-1) can no longer win games on the road against ranked opponents and have sense of urgency.
It helps when Brandon Wimbush looks nearly unstoppable in the first half leading Notre Dame to a 21-10 lead at the half. The only reason it was that close was because Ambry Thomas returned a kickoff 99-yards for the Wolverines only touchdown of the half.
The Michigan defense tightened, but so did the Irish defense until scored with 2:18 left in the game. They could have had more to work with, but elected to huddle instead of running a hurry up offense. They held Notre Dame to get the ball back with 1:40, but Jerry Tillery ended the Wolverines comeback with a strip sack that was recovered by Te'Von Coney.
The Irish welcome Ball State (1-0) to South Bend for the schools first ever meeting.
The Minutemen (1-1) easily dispatched of FCS Duquesne, but when faced with a Power 5 school on the road, it didn't go quite the same way. The Eagles (1-0) found themselves comfortably ahead 48-7 going into halftime.
UMass allowed 608 total yards, with 272 of those coming on the ground. Meanwhile the Minutemen could only muster 66 yards rushing.
Up next is the option attack of Georgia Southern (1-0).
Arizona had no answer for Squally Canada who led BYU with 98 yards rushing and three touchdowns. It was a long road back for Tanner Magnum, who tore his Achilles last year, but the soon to be 25-year old put up 209 yards through the air with a touchdown.
BYU will test itself against another PAC 12 school with Cal (1-0) making their way to Provo, Utah.
