A back and forth game between two evenly matched teams. After a 7-0 first half, the two teams traded blows in the second half. An interception helped set up the game tying field goal with 3:27 left for Tulane (0-1) and they settled for overtime.
Tulane's overtime started with an illegal hands to face penalty and forced the Green Wave to try and pick up a fourth and 25. After the failed attempt, Wake Forest punched it in seven plays later to win the game.
Sam Hartman finished with 378 yards passing and had two touchdowns with Alex Bachman bringing in both scores. Sage Surratt had 150 yards receiving while Greg Dortch had 149 of his own.
Wake Forest welcomes Towson (1-0) to Winston-Salem.
Syracuse (1-0) built a 34-7 lead going in to halftime that the Broncos (0-1) could not overcome in Kalamazoo.
Western Michigan had no answer for Eric Dungey, who ran for 200 yards and a touchdown to go with 184 yards passing and two scores, both to Jamal Custis. Custis racked up 168 yards, but that wasn't even the most impressive performance on the field. D'Wayne Eskridge led all FBS receivers in Week 1 with 240 yards and two touchdowns, including an 84-yard bomb from Jon Wassink.
Syracuse opens up their home season with a visit from Wagner (1-0).
Duke (1-0) entered halftime leading Army (0-1) 17-0 and held off a Black Knights rally in the third quarter to coast 34-14. Army had a hard time holding on to the football as they had five fumbles, losing two.
Birttain Brown, Daniel Jones, and Deon Jackson all had rushing scores for the Blue Devils.
Duke heads to Northwestern (1-0) this Saturday.
If this game did anything,it was to solve the quarterback position for Alabama (1-0) as Tua Tagovailoa clearly outperformed Jalen Hurts. Other than that, the Bama defense smothered the run game, allowing just 16 total yards on the ground. Jawon Pass had a couple of touchdown passes for Louisville (0-1), but they came with Alabama holding a pretty large lead.
Louisville will head back to Kentucky for their home opener against Indiana State (1-0).
It was 48-0 before Furman (0-1) finally scored in the fourth quarter with a 1:18 left. Trevor Lawrence had three touchdowns on just 14 passes to lead Clemson (1-0).
The Tigers draw a much tougher task on the road against Texas A&M (1-0).
Ryan Finley threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns, but the Wolfpack (1-0) couldn't seem to shake James Madison (0-1). At one point NCST only led 17-13 with 1:05 left before Reggie Gallaspy II scored from six yards out to finish the game.
NCST welcomes Georgia St (1-0) next.
The option can be tough to stop sometimes and for Alcorn St (0-1) that was very much the case. The Yellow Jackets (1-0) ran for 439 yards and four touchdowns while allowing just 146 total yards.
Georgia Tech brings the option to South Florida (1-0) next.
The Eagles (1-0) found themselves comfortably ahead 48-7 going into halftime.
UMass (0-1) allowed 608 total yards, with 272 of those coming on the ground. Meanwhile the Minutemen could only muster 66 yards rushing. Anthony Brown also threw for four touchdowns to lead Boston College.
B.C. hosts Holy Cross (0-1) this week.
Apparently you could've have gone home or stopped watching after the first half, because neither team put up points in the second half. By then Pitt (1-0) was on its way to amassing 238 yards on the ground.
They host a Penn State (1-0) team that is looking to shake the cobwebs off of last week.
The Spiders (0-1) initially gave Virginia (1-0) a run in the first quarter, trailing just 14-10, but the Cavaliers poured it on with 301 rushing yards. Jordan Ellis accounted for 146 of those yards with two touchdowns. Bryce Perkins added another two scores and 108 yards on the ground to go with his 185 yards passing and two touchdowns through the air.
Virginia heads to Indiana (1-0) next.
Cal (1-0) controlled the game for the first three quarters, but the North Carolina (0-1) put up a fight at the end, that proved too little too late. The Bears took advantage of three Nathan Elliott interceptions, including a pick-six and another that set up a short 23-yard drive that lead to a score.
Up 24-3, the Tar Heels scored on their final two drives to make things appear much closer, but were unable to recover the onside kick.
The Tar Heels welcome an ECU (0-1) team with a loss to an FCS school this year.
What was billed as the a battle between two heavyweights ended with an early and decisive victory for the "underdog" Tigers (1-0). LSU picked Malik Rosier off twice (including a pick six) and limited the Hurricanes (0-1) to just 83 yards rushing.
LSU scored on the final three drives of the first half, kicked off by a Nick Brossette 50-yard touchdown score.The Tigers took a 33-3 lead into the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
Miami hosts Savannah St (0-1) next.
It was all Hokies (1-0) in this one as Deondre Francois was picked off three times as Florida State (0-1) committed five turnovers in Willie Taggart's debut. Josh Jackson did enough to lead Virginia Tech to victory with 207 yards passing and two touchdowns.
The Hokies take on William & Mary (1-0) while Florida State faces Samford (1-0). The Seminoles will likely honor former running back and actor Burt Reynolds, who passed away Thursday at the age of 82.
