The Monarchs (0-2, 0-1 CUSA) jumped out to a 20-14 lead, but a two hour rain delay interrupted their groove and FIU (1-1, 1-0) rallied to win 28-20 in the second half.
James Morgan tossed three touchdowns and Shawndarrius Phillips ran for 94 yards and another score to lead the Panthers. Jonathan Duhart had a big first half with three catches for 150 yards and the Monarchs only two scores.
Old Dominion travels to Charlotte (1-1) next week in another CUSA showdown. The Panthers will host UMass (1-2).
Another weather delayed game, but it couldn't keep some Owls (1-1) out of the FAU record book in their win over Air Force (1-1).
Chris Robison threw for a school record 471 yards and added three touchdowns. The record was originally set by Rusty Smith (463) back in 2005. Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair also recorded five tackles which gave him 187 all-time to pass Frantz Joseph (183) for the school record.
The Owls big blow came when Robison found Willie Wright for a 26-yard score to put FAU up by 13. That's not to say Air Force didn't make it interesting. The Falcons blocked a punt and scored to make it 33-27 and then recovered the onside kick. Ocie Ross secured the win for the Owls though, when he picked off Isaiah Sanders with 50 seconds remaining.
FAU welcomes Bethune Cookman (1-1) to Boca Raton next week.
The Thundering Herd (2-0) held EKU (1-1) to just 187 yards of total offense while forcing five turnovers and recording a safety.
Marshall wasn't much cleaner with four turnovers in the game, but Isaiah Green still threw three touchdowns in the win.
The Herd head to South Carolina to face the Gamecocks (1-1).
Brent Stockstill threw for 396 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Blue Raiders (1-1) to a big win over the Skyhawks (0-2). Tennesse Martin hung around in the first half, trailing just 26-17, but Middle Tennessee put up 35 in the second half.
The Blue Raiders draw a tough task in No. 3 Georgia (2-0) this week.
Mason Fine continued to add to his video game numbers for his career with another 418 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Mean Green (2-0) over the Cardinals (0-2). Three of those touchdowns went to Rico Bussey Jr. who had eight catches for 128 yards.
Deandre Torrey was limited on the ground to 44 yards on 16 carries, but three of those found the endzone.
The Mean Green head to Arkansas next to take on the Razorbacks (1-1).
J'Mar Smith threw for 380 yards and two scores to lead the Bulldogs (2-0) to an easy 54-17 win over Southern (0-2). La Tech outgained the Jaguars 613-286.
The Bulldogs will take a break before facing a much tougher Louisiana squad in LSU (2-0) on Sept. 22.
Southern Miss (1-1) took a 17-14 lead into halftime, but gave up the go ahead touchdown on the first drive of the third quarter. They responded with a field goal to make it 21-20, but then both teams imploded offensively. The Warhawks (2-0) would miss a field goal and throw and interception, while the Golden Eagles committed two turnovers, missed a field goal over their own, an turned the ball over once on downs at the ULM 37.
The big blow came with 22 seconds left when Jack Abraham's pass was intercepted by Cortez Sisco Jr. to seal the win for the Warhawks.
Southern Miss travels to Boone, North Carolina to take on Appalachian St (1-1) next.
Charlotte (1-1) probably knew it was going to be in for a rough day when the Mountaineers (1-1) nearly knocked off Penn State last week. They found themselves in a quick 24-9 hole at the half and were limited to just 203 total yards of offense.
The 49ers will host Old Dominion (0-2) to begin CUSA play.
Marcus Outlow gashed the Blazers (1-1) for 140 yards and two touchdowns to route UAB 47-24.
Coastal Carolina (1-1) kept UAB off the board after the Blazers tooka 24-20 lead into halftime.
UAB was led by a ground attack that amassed 286 yards and three scores, but A.J. Erdely was just 12-of-26 for 149 yards with an interception.
The Blazers welcomes Tulane (1-1) to Birmingham next week.
The Roadrunners (0-2) mustered just 255 total yards and were not able to overcome Baylor's (2-0) 20-13 halftime lead. B.J. Daniels led the way for UTSA as he ran for 90 yards and a score.
The Roadrunners head to Kansas St (1-1) to face the shaky Wildcats.
The good news, Rice (1-2) held Cole McDonald to a season low in passing. The bad news is that he still threw for 319 yards and four touchdowns to lead Hawai'i (3-0) to victory.
Shawn Stankavage tossed two touchdowns and Emmanuel Esukpa ran for 104 yards and a score to the lead the way for the Owls.
Rice takes a much needed break and will open CUSA play on Sept. 22 against Southern Miss.
The Miners (0-2) extended their losing streak to 14 after falling behind 38-10 at the half to UNLV (1-1). Kai Locksley did run for 119 yards and two touchdowns, but was just 6-of-19 for 57 yards.
Relief may come in two weeks, but first the Miners travel to Tennessee to face the Volunteers (1-1).
The Hilltoppers (0-2) came out like gangbusters scoring on their opening drive and picking off Chris Ferguson's third attempt of the game and returning it for six. Drew Eckels second touchdown pass of the quarter made it 21-0.
Then the rest of the game happened. Maine (2-0) outscored WKU 14-0 the rest of the first half, then started the second half by going for it on fourth and one from their own 34. They came up short, but the defense came through with a sack, fumble, scoop and score to tie the game at 21.
In what can only be explained as a bad game of Truth or Dare, WKU went for it on fourth and 1 from their own 15, then missed to set up a one play scoring drive for the Black Bears that gave them their first lead of the game.
Maine would add a field goal before Eckels tossed his third touchdown, a 75-yard hookup to Garland LaFrance. In a feeling that Wolverine fans can understand, WKU lined up for the game tying field goal with 47 seconds left, only for the Black Bears to block it and bury the Hilltoppers.
The good news is that Louisville (1-1) didn't look great against Indiana St, so maybe WKU has a chance.
