Independents Recap Week 4

Army (2-2) nearly pulled off an upset for the ages by playing keep away from the high powered Sooners (4-0) offense.
The Black Knights would go on to hold the ball for nearly 45 minutes! Oklahoma looked great right off the bat, scoring on a Murray touchdown pass to Carson Meier. Then Army trudged along for a 16 play, 75-yard drive,that lasted 9:31 and resulted in a Connor Slomka 1-yard plunge.
Murray threw another touchdown on the next drive, this time to CeeDee Lamb in a drive that took 2:36. So Army ran another 16 play, 75-yard drive, that was only 8:54. The Black Knights even went for it on fourth and eight that drive and were able to complete a rare pass.This time Murray would run it in from 33 yards to give Oklahoma a 21-14 lead at the half.
In the second half the Sooners started with an interception that set up another Army journey to the endzone. This time it was an epic 19 play, 85 yard drive, that lasted nearly 11 minutes before Andy Davidson scored to tie the game. The Black Knights bled the clock another ten minutes and attempted to take the lead, but threw an interception to set up the Sooners. Oklahoma got down inside the redzone, but Austin Seibert missed the game winning field goal as time expired.
In overtime the Sooners needed two plays before Murray and Lamb connected again for the quick score. Army's drive was over in four plays, but this time it ended on a Parnell Motley interception to avoid the upset bid.

Army will face yet another undefeated team as they travel to Buffalo (4-0).

The Flames (1-2) were treated to a show in the North Texas (4-0) offense that kept clicking.
Liberty managed just one touchdown pass from Stephen Calvert to B.J. Farrow, which at the time made it 14-7. The Mean Green outscored the Flames from that point 33-0.
Liberty begins its tour of the "Land of Enchantment" as they face the New Mexico Lobos (2-1) this week before taking on the New Mexico St Aggies on Oct. 6.

In a battle of someone has to win, the Battle of I-10 came down to three UTEP (0-4) turnovers as New Mexico St (1-4) won the Silver Spade and Brass Spittoon for the second straight year.

It started poorly for the Miners as their first punt was blocked and returned for a touchdown. The responded quickly though when Kai Locksley punched it in from one yard out. The two teams traded field goals before three straight drives that ended with fumbles, with the last one by UTEP proving to be the most costly when Malik Demby returned it right before the half.

UTEP once again scored on their first drive of the half as Locksley connected with Terry Juniel for a 76-yard score. The Miners had a chance to take their first lead, but Jason Filley missed a 44-yard field goal. The Aggies covered the short field quickly as Josh Adkins connected with Royce Caldwell for a 53-yard touchdown.

The two teams traded field goals before Locksley was picked off on the Miners final drive of the game.

The Aggies will take a week off to prepare for their first of two match-ups this year with Liberty.

The Minutemen (2-3) had their offense clicking from the get go as they built a 28-0 lead after the first quarter to throttle Charlotte (2-2).
Quarterback Michael Curtis had a pair of rushing touchdowns as well as two through the air. Marquis Young added 74 yards and two scores on the ground.
UMass will next head to Ohio to face their former MAC foe, the Bobcats (1-2).

The Cowboys (3-1) held a 3-0 lead after the first quarter, but a 24 point onslaught in the second quarter helped BYU cruise to an easy win.
Lopini Katoa had two rushing touchdowns and the Cougars defense forced four turnovers.
The worst thing to happen to BYU came when their mascot had a wardrobe malfunction.
BYU will now head to Seattle for a ranked showdown with No. 11 Washington (3-1).

In his first start of the season Ian Book torched the Demon Deacons (2-2) for five total touchdowns to lead the Irish (4-0) to an easy win.
Book was also aided by Jafar Armstrong's ground attack which saw him carry the ball eight times for 98 yards and two scores. The Notre Dame defense was a nightmare for Sam Hartman and Jamie Newman as they had three sacks and five hurries while Julian Okwara himself had 3.5 tackles for loss.
Notre Dame will host perhaps the game of the week when No. 7 Stanford (4-0) heads to South Bend.
