Anyone not watching would assume that the Buckeyes (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) had it easy, but Indiana (4-2,1-2) gave Ohio State more than they bargained for int eh first three quarters.
Nevertheless, the Dwayne Haskins still threw for 455 yards and six touchdowns to overcome his two interceptions and the Hoosiers couldn't put points on the board following any of their defensive stops. A week after having Michigan on the ropes, Northwestern (2-3, 2-1 Big Ten) was determined not to let another upset bid slip away as they rallied to stun Michigan State (3-2, 1-1).
The Spartans seized a 19-14 lead in the third quarter thanks to a 48-yard touchdown run from Felton Davis III and then a 3-yard reception by Davis from Brian Lewerke. Northwestern responded with a 21-yard touchdown pass by Clayton Thorson to Cameron Green and then the Wildcats converted on a two-point conversion to take a three point lead at the end of the third quarter.
Northwestern would miss a field goal on their next drive and the Spartans punted twice and gambled on a fourth and one from their own 11 and were stuffed. That set up a 2-yard touchdown run by Thorson that put the game out of reach with 2:51 to play. MSU would get down to the Wildcats 1-yard line, but elected to pass on fourth and goal and missed once again.
The Wildcats will welcome winless Nebraska (0-5,0-3) to Evanston while Sparty heads to No. 8 Penn State (4-1, 1-1).
