PAC 12 Week 8 Recap

The Cardinal (5-2, 3-1 PAC 12) handed the Sun Devils (3-4, 1-3) their fourth loss in the last five games thanks in part to a big third quarter on Thursday.

Stanford led 6-3 at the end of the half, but Arizona State would tie on their first drive of the second half. That tie was short lived as Cardinal finally found the end zone when K.J. Costello found J.J. Arcega-Whiteside for a 28-yard touchdown. They grew their lead on the next drive when Cameron Scarlet punched it in from 1-yard out.
The Sun Devils were finally get some offense going when Manny Wilkins scrambled in for a 10-yard touchdown to bring ASU to within seven.They had one final shot at the end of the game, but were stalled out at the Stanford 18-yard line to give the Cardinal the win.

Stanford will await Washington State (6-1, 3-1) next while Arizona State heads to USC (4-3, 3-2).

All the focus seemed to be on Oregon (5-2, 2-2 PAC 12) after their win over Washington, but Washington State (6-1, 3-1) was ready to crash their party on Saturday.
Gardner Minshew threw for four touchdowns and 323 yards to lead the Cougars to their third straight victory while the defense held the Ducks offense in check.
In fact, Oregon didn't score until third quarter when they put up 17 points thanks to a Justin Herbert rushing and passing touchdown. An Adam Stack field goal cut the lead to 27-20, but Minshew found Dezmon Patmon for a 22-yard touchdown to all but finish off the Ducks chances for the College Football Playoff.
Wazzu will get another shot at a big win on the road as they head to Stanford (5-2, 3-1). Oregon hopes to rebound with a road trip to Arizona to face the Wildcats (3-5, 2-3).

Steven Montez kept the Buffaloes (5-2, 2-2 PAC 12) in the game for the first half, but the Huskies (6-2, 4-1) defense proved to be too much in the end.
Despite not having Myles Gaskin, Washington was able to run for over 200 yards as a team with rushing touchdowns from Salvon Ahmed and Kamari Pleasant. Jake Browning added a late fourth quarter touchdown pass to Aaron Fuller to put away Colorado.
The Buffs were short one of the top playmakers in the country as Laviska Shenault Jr. did not play after the effects of a toe injury from last week's game against USC.
Washington heads to Cal (4-3, 1-3) next while Colorado hosts Oregon State (1-6, 0-4).

Wilton Speight made his return on Saturday and led the Bruins (2-5, 2-2 PAC 12) have now won back to back games after holding off a late rally by Rhett Rodriguez and the Wildcats (3-5, 2-3).
UCLA took a 17-7 lead into the half as Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Speight each threw a touchdown pass in the first half while Rodriguez connected with Shawn Poindexter for the lone Arizona TD.
The Wildcats rattled off 13 straight points on two Josh Pollack field goals and another Rodriguez to Poindexter touchdown. Speight brought UCLA back ahead with a 25-yard touchdown to Demetic Felton. Arizona responded in the fourth quarter with a J.J. Taylor 1-yard TD run.
That lead was short lived as Joshua Kelley ran for a 28-yard score to put UCLA up 31-27. The Wildcats were able to kick a field goal to get within one with 6:28 remaining. The Bruins would never return the ball back to Arizona as they converted three key third down conversions to play keep away and win again.
UCLA goes for three-in-a-row when Utah (5-2, 3-2) comes to town on Friday while Arizona welcomes Oregon (5-2,2-2) on Saturday.

USC (4-3, 3-2 PAC 12) scored late to make it look closer than it was as it was all Utes (5-2, 3-2) in the second and third quarter.
Tyler Huntley threw four touchdowns and ran for another while Zack Moss cut up the Trojans defense for 136 yards on the ground. The Utes defense picked off J.T. Daniels twice and held USC to just 205 yards of total offense. The Trojans defense helped put USC up 14-0 after returning a fumble, but then the Utes put up 34 unanswered points.
Utah looks to make it four-in-a-row against the rejuvenated Bruins (2-5, 2-2) of UCLA. USC will also head to Los Angeles when they host Arizona State (3-4, 1-3).

The Cal Bears (4-3, 1-3 PAC 12) snapped their three game losing streak by thumping Oregon State and extending the Beavers (1-6, 0-4) streak to five straight losses.
Chase Garbers threw for three touchdowns and Patrick Laird ran for 193 yards and two scores in the win.Quarterback Jack Colletto ran in the lone touchdown for the Beavers.
Cal will now host ranked Washington (6-2, 4-1) while Oregon State heads to the slumping Colorado Buffaloes (5-2, 2-2).
