MAC Week 9 Recap

Toledo (4-4, 2-2 MAC) may have been thought dead and buried after back-to-back MAC losses to EMU and Buffalo, but the Rockets instead throttled Western Michigan (6-3, 4-1) at Kalamazoo on Thursday.
The Rockets found success from both quarterbacks as Eli Peters threw three touchdowns while Mitchell Guadagni tossed two more. Bryant Koback had 10 carries for 99 yards and a score in the win.
A big factor for the Broncos six game win streak being snapped was the injury to quarterback Jon Wassink. WMU is expecting their offensive leader to miss next week's game, but potentially more than that after suffering a foot injury. In his place Kaleb Eleby threw for 293 yards and two touchdowns (both to Jayden Reed) and was 23-of-28 in his college football debut.
Toledo will try to continue to chip into the Broncos lead in the MAC East when they host Ball State (3-6, 2-3) on Halloween. Western Michigan will host another Thursday night game when the Ohio Bobcats (5-3, 3-1) head North.

The Bobcats (5-3, 3-1 MAC) ran for 411 yards and six touchdowns to rout the Ball State Cardinals (3-6, 2-3) on Thursday.
A.J. Ouellette (13 carries, 135 yards), Maleek Irons (16 carries, 102 yards), and Nathan Rourke (8 carries, 77 yards) all finished with two rushing touchdowns. Rourke also added a passing TD in the win.
Riley Neal threw for a touchdown while back-up Drew Pitt ran for another in the loss.
Ohio heads to Western Michigan (6-3, 4-1) on Thursday while Ball State heads to Toledo (4-4, 2-2) on Halloween.

The Zips (4-3, 2-2 MAC) held off a second half rally by Central Michigan (1-8, 0-5) to hand the Chippewa's their fifth straight loss.
Akron jumped out to a 17-0 lead with a Kato Nelson touchdown pass, a Nick Gasser field goal, and a Van Edwards Jr. 20-yard touchdown run. However, four turnovers kept the Chips in the game starting with a Ryan Tice field goal and a Tony Poljan 1-yard TD.
The two teams traded missed field goal and whole bunch of punts. CMU drove the ball late and got to a fourth and one from the Akron 5-yard line. Kumehnnu Gwilly was stopped for a loss of one to turn the ball over. The Chippewa's final drive would end on a turnover on downs.
Akron remains home for a Thursday night showdown with MAC West leading Northern Illinois (5-3, 4-0). Central Michigan heads to Ypsilanti for an instate showdown with Eastern Michigan (4-5, 2-3).

The Huskies (5-3) defense stymied BYU (4-4) and held the Cougars to just two field goals.
Marcus Childers got the go ahead score early in the third quarter and the Northern Illinois defense did the rest. BYU missed a go-ahead field goal and then the Huskies picked off Zach Wilson to end the game.
NIU returns to MAC play now solely holding first place in the MAC West. They'll head to Akron (4-3, 2-2 MAC) on Thursday.

Army (6-2) held the ball for over 45 minutes and the Eagles (4-5) fell early and weren't able to rally on Homecoming.
Tyler Wiegers threw two touchdown passes to start the second half, but Eastern Michigan could only convert on one of their two two-point conversions to trail 16-14. After two Army scores, Blake Banham added a 1-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion to bring the Eagles back within one score.
Army didn't allow EMU to get the ball back with a chance as they went 84 yards in 12 plays and scored a late touchdown to put the game out of reach.
Eastern returns to MAC play when they host Central Michigan (1-8, 0-5 MAC).
