Dexter Williams ran for 178 yards and three touchdowns as the Fighting Irish (6-0) used another second half surge to pull away from Virginia Tech (3-2).
The Hokies trailed by only one at the half, but Williams delivered a staggering blow with a 97-yard touchdown early in the third quarter. Then it was Ian Book's turn as he connected with Miles Boykin for two touchdowns to build a 38-16 advantage. Williams delivered the final blow on a 31-yard score to put the game out of reach.
Kicker Justin Yoon took advantage of Notre Dame's high scoring output to pass Allen Pinkett for the most points in Irish history. Yoon finished game with 322 career points and will easily add on to distance himself from Pinkett's 320.
The Irish look to stay undefeated as they welcome Pitt (3-3) to South Bend.
The Cougars (3-3) were held to just 39 yards rushing and allowed five touchdowns to Jordan Love as the Aggies rolled to victory in the battle for the Old Wagon Wheel.
BYU lost to Utah State for the second year in a row, something that had not happened since the Aggies won four straight from 1971-74. Tanner Magnum had the Cougars only two touchdowns as he threw for 270 yards, but also a pick six to open the scoring.
BYU will host the high powered Hawai'i (6-1) offense next.
The Minutemen (2-5) had no answer for Jordan Cronkrite who ran for 302 yards and three touchdowns to lead USF (5-0) in a blowout win.
Three different UMass quarterbacks combined to throw for 401 yards and five touchdowns with Andy Isabella racking up 13 catches for 191 yards and a score. It was the second week in a row that the Minutemen had lost 58-42.
They'll get a week off before Coastal Carolina heads to town on Oct. 20.
It was a good old fashioned shootout in the desert as New Mexico State (2-4) edged Liberty (2-3) in the first of their two meetings this season.
Josh Adkins threw for 402 yards and four touchdowns for the Aggies while Christian Gibson added 127 yard and two scores on the ground. O.J. Clark was the big target for Adkins as he caught 10 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown.
Stephen Calvert had 365 yards and two touchdowns passing with another two rushing for the Flames. Frankie Hickson added 155 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown while Antonio Gandy-Golden and D.J. Stubbs both finished with a 115 yards receiving.
The game was tied at 21 shortly after the half, but New Mexico State scored on two straight drives to build a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
New Mexico State heads to Lafayette, Louisiana for a showdown with a former Sun Belt foe in the Ragin' Cajuns (2-3). The Flames will return home to face a Troy (5-1) team that's won five straight.
