Akron (3-3, 1-2 MAC) won the Wagon Wheel for the fourth year in a row, but it was at the expense of a costly miscue by Kent State (1-7, 0-4) in overtime.
After neither team scored after the early third quarter the two teams entered overtime tied at 17. The Zips scored on an eight-yard touchdown pass from Kato Nelson to Andre Williams, but the Golden Flashes erased a sack and needed just two plays for Woody Barrett to find Justin Rankin for a 29-yard touchdown. Kent State lined up in the swinging gate formation for the extra point, but lined up traditionally to tie the game.
A botched snap and hold would have other ideas as the Flashes, as Dustin Crum helplessly tried to run the ball in for a two-point conversion, but the Zips stifled him well short of the end zone. Kent State has now lost six straight and are officially eliminated from bowl contention.
Akron heads home to take on Central Michigan (1-7, 0-4) while Kent State takes a week off before heading to Bowling Green (1-7, 0-4) on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Toledo (3-4, 1-2 MAC) had Buffalo's Tyree Jackson down and out in the first half with three interceptions and four sacks, but the Bulls (7-1, 4-0) rattled off 24 unanswered points in the second half.
Jackson tied the game with his second touchdown pass of the day to Anthony Johnson and then the Bulls gave Toledo a heavy dose of Jaret Patterson, who ran for two fourth quarter touchdowns.
Neither Eli Peters nor Mitchell Guadagni were effective for the Rockets as they combined to go 7-of-21 for 137 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Dionte Johnson had the big play of the day as he streaked his way to an 80-yard touchdown reception.
Buffalo takes a week off before hosting Miaimi (3-5, 3-1) on Tuesday Oct. 30. Toledo starts their odd schedule with a Thursday night showdown against the MAC West leading Western Michigan Broncos (6-2, 4-0). The Rockets will not play another Saturday game for the rest of the season.

Western Michigan (6-2, 4-0) collected a handful of trophies in Saturday's win over rival Central Michigan (1-7, 0-4).
The win not only secured the Cannon Trophy, but also the Michigan MAC Trophy as the Broncos beat Eastern Michigan earlier this year. Western has won both trophies four times in the last five years after Central held both in 2017.
Jon Wassink led the way with three rushing touchdowns while LeVante Bellamy had 19 carries for 145 yards and a score in the win. The Chips only got one touchdown from Romello Ross and turned the ball over three times. The Broncos lived in their backfield recording four sacks and 11 tackles for loss.
Western has a showdown with Toledo (3-4, 1-2) at home on Thursday while Central heads to Akron (3-3, 1-2) on Saturday.

Finally a game for the Eagles (4-4, 2-3 MAC) where the game wasn't decided in the final moments as they drubbed Ball State (3-5, 2-2) on a blustery day in Muncie.
Taylor Wiegers threw for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead Eastern Michigan to back-to-back wins for second time this season. Riley Neal threw and ran for a touchdown for the Cardinals while Will Jones made his one carry count with an 80-yard touchdown.
EMU goes out of conference to welcome Army (5-2) while Ball State travels Ohio (4-3, 2-1) on Thursday.

Fans in Athens could leave early on Homecoming as the Bobcats (4-3, 2-1 MAC) easily dispatched of the Bowling Green Falcons (1-7, 0-4).
Nathan Rourke threw for four touchdowns and had 10 carries for 101 yards and a score. Maleek Irons had 12 carries for 116 yards in the win for Ohio.
Carl Pelini didn't have much success in his first game as interim head coach after Mike Jinks was fired earlier in the week. Jinks had two more years on his contract, but was just 7-24 and the Falcons blew a lead on their Homecoming against Western Michigan. Pelini, a former head coach at Florida Atlantic, did get two passing touchdowns from Jarrett Doege.
The Bobcats will welcome Ball State (3-5, 2-2) on Thursday while Bowling Green gets a much needed bye week before hosting fellow MAC bottom dweller Kent State (1-7, 0-4).

Fortune favors the bold, but it would not be so for the Redhawks (3-5) as Miami went for two and came up short on a bizarre final play to secure the win for Army (5-2).
Miami rallied to score 14 points in the fourth quarter to force overtime. The teams traded field goals in the first overtime and in the second, Darnell Woolfolk ran in for his second touchdown of the game. The Redhawks scored on Gus Ragland's fourth touchdown pass when Chuck Martin decided to roll the dice.
The Black Knights nearly sacked Ragland on the two-point try, but he was able to escape somehow and find Kenny Young, who nearly cut through Army defenders before being tackled just short of the end zone.
Miami takes the week off before a Tuesday night showdown for first place in the MAC East against Buffalo (7-1, 4-0 MAC) on Oct. 30.
